Pirates open four-game Siskiyous series with extra-inning loss

Porterville College is still in search of its first win of the season after suffering a 4-3 loss in 10 innings to visiting College of the Siskiyous on Thursday. The contest opened up a four-game non-conference series in Porterville against the Eagles.

Porterville led early, after rallying for a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. Ryan Pearce lined a RBI single to drive in Brandon Lozano. Moments later, Pearce came all the around to score from first base thanks to an errant pickoff throw.

Siskiyous came right back to take the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth. COS sent eight batters to the plate and smacked three doubles and a single during the offensive outburst.

PC tied up the game in the seventh when Matt Langston came in to score on a fielder's choice grounder by Andres Garza. But in the 10th, a passed ball allowed COS to score the game-winning run.

Sophomore Jhared Gonzalez pitched well in just his second start of the season. He allowed three runs and six hits over eight innings. Gonzalez struck out nine and walked two in the no decision.

The series continues on Friday (Feb. 2) with a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m.
