PANTHER PITCHING GIVES CHAFFEY A 5-2 WIN V CERRO COSO
The Panther pitching crew is proving themselves to be a formidable force in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference. Pitchers Josh Sandoval and Daniel Jaime combined yesterday for a strong performance against Cerro Coso earning a 5-2 win/save combo. Sandoval started on the mound for Chaffey going 4.2 and facing 18 batters. Jaime relieved to start the 6th.
"Jauregui and Buckley have been great for us as starters. It's taken us a bit to find our 3rd and we think we've found him in Sandoval - we think he'll be the final piece in our rotation," said Head Coach Mike Cordero. "Jaime has been a major contributor and proven he can come in in any situation and compete at a high level. We even like him as a potential spot starter and he's done a great job in that role. A major piece to our success on the mound is our two pitching coaches: Art Salazar and Micah Beyer - they complement each other well. Our pitching and defense have been keeping us in the game, we expect our offense to break out soon."
Cerro Coso led 2-0 in the 4th when the Panthers opened up to take the lead 3-2 thanks to a series of Coyotes errors. Two runs in the 8th including a sac fly by Darren Taylor secured the win for Chaffey. Bradley Chesterton led the Panthers with 1 run, 2 hits, and 2 RBIs.
Chaffey travels to Barstow Thursday for continued IEAC play then returns home Saturday to take on Victor Valley.
