Football keeps bowl dreams alive with win over SJCC

Head coach Darren Arbet and his team needed a win to keep their bowl game dreams alive. They secured the much-needed victory on Oct. 27 in a blowout over the San Jose City College Jaguars.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Josh Barron passed for 138 yards and three touchdowns to lead an offense that has scored at least 40 points in three of its last four games.

The Seahawks (5-3, 2-2) will host the Merced College Blue Devils Saturday at 1 p.m.

A win would ensure the Seahawks bowl eligibility.

Freshman linebacker Spenser Soares went off against the Jaguars. He registered five tackles, two sacks, a fumble recovery, and an interception, which he returned for 36 yards.

Cabrillo's smothering defense combined to sack the opposition five times for minus-39 yards, and had seven total tackles for a loss on the day.

Ismail Souza, DeTrale Hardney and Damond Carter each pitched in a sack apiece to go along with Soares' two quarterback takedowns.

Receivers Ramon Gordon, Kameron Pleasant and Weston Kandaria all caught a touchdown for Cabrillo, while running back Cole Davis and quarterback Kendall Williams both rushed for a score.
