Comets take down Vaqueros for a trip to state

GLENDALE, CA (3/7/2020) – With a trip to the California Community College Athletic Association State Tournament on the line, Palomar traveled to Glendale College for the third round of the SoCal Regionals. After a hard-fought back-and-forth battle, the Comets reigned victorious in a 53-47 win over the Vaqueros.

Palomar was down 15-12 after the first quarter and came back to outscore Glendale 12-8 in the second for a one-point lead at halftime. The Comets went off in the third quarter scoring 20 points with sophomore guard Taylor Williams leading the team with eight points in the quarter. Sophomore guard Julie Saelee came off the bench and dropped two 3-pointers. Aaliyah Taylor nabbed two rebounds for the Comets and managed four points in the third.

Williams and Saelee both finished the night with 14 points. Williams had seven rebounds and one steal, while Saelee finished with five rebounds and two steals. Taylor finished with nine points and 10 rebounds while sophomore Melena Bland ended with eight points and four rebounds.

The Comets improve to 27-3 overall and advance to the CCCAA State Tournament as the No. 4 seed in the South. They will face the No. 1 seed from the North, San Joaquin Delta College on Thursday, Mar. 12 at 7 p.m. at West-Hills Lemoore College. This will be the Comets' third trip to the tournament in the last four years.
