Baseball: Early innings hurt Roadrunners in 9-2 loss at LA Valley

Rio Hondo College had its modest two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday after a 9-2 loss at LA Valley College. The non-conference defeat dropped the Roadrunners to 5-7 overall.

LA Valley (6-10) put the game out of reach early, posting four runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the second.

Rio Hondo totaled seven hits in the contest but had few scoring opportunities, leaving four runners on base. Lucas Rocha in the second and Tony Rosario in the eighth hit RBI singles for Rio Hondo's lone runs.

Isaiah Ramos took the loss for the Roadrunners to fall to 0-2. He allowed seven runs, just three earned, and seven hits over five innings. Ramos struck out five and walked four.

Jaymes Gadd and Andrew Quillen both tossed scorleess innings of relief.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 27) at 2 p.m. when the Roadrunners host Victor Valley College in a non-conference game.
