Riverside Sweeps Season Series against Cypress

The Riverside City College women's tennis team hosted the Cypress College Chargers in a rescheduled Orange Empire Conference (OEC) showdown after their initial meeting was postponed due to rain. The Tigers, who currently sit one half game back of first place, continued to push for the top spot after defeating the Chargers 8-1.

Familiar faces continued their hot play as the top duo team featuring sophomore Torrey Mateljan and freshman Keeley Arendt worked an 8-4 win to set the tone. Freshman number two duo Samantha Treat and Jillian Stark followed with an 8-2 win, while freshman tandem Marvonna Vaxter and Semaj Walter capped the doubles sweep with an 8-6 victory.

Treat earned the top singles slot and penned a three set victory after dropping the opening set 4-6. She cruised to a 6-2 victory and utilized a 10-8 third-set tiebreaker to seal the deal.

Mateljan was slotted in the second position and earned a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory, while Arendt battled to a three set win at 6-7 (4), 6-0, 10-3.

Stark remained unfazed as the fourth player and worked a two set win at 6-0, 7-6 (2), while Vaxter held down the sixth position at 6-1, 6-3.
