The MSJC baseball team earned their first win of the season on Saturday defeating Compton on the road 7-3.

The Eagles were coming off a suspended game with Imperial Valley Thursday where they were tied 11-11 after 7 full innings of play.

Saturday MSJC took the lead in the top of 2nd when Ryan Grinnals scored an unearned run.  The Eagles pushed the lead to 2-0 in the third when Robert Jacobsen drove in DJ Graham.  After a Compton run in the bottom of the third, the Eagles got on the board 3 times in the top of the fourth to give themselves some breathing room on a two run single by Brody Brown that scored Nico Reyes and Andre Torres.  Later in the inning Jacobsen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push across another Eagle run.  MSJC would go on to tack on single runs in the 6th and 9th on RBIs from Phoenix Sommay and Torres.

On the mound Demetrius Vizcarra earned the victory for the Eagles as he went 5 innings allowing just one run on 3 hits, while striking out 4.  Josh Ochoa gave up 2 runs in relief in an inning of work, before Nolan LaChappa turned in two shut out innings.  Chris Scovel came on to throw the ninth and recorded a three up three down inning to close the door.

In all the Eagles had 9 hits on the day led by Grinnals with three.

MSJC now 1-0 on the season will host their home opener on Tuesday as Citrus comes to town for a 2 pm game.  Fans are welcome for Tuesday's contest, masking will be enforced.
