Knights Go Cold in 4th Quarter and Fall to Southwestern

San Diego City's Karla Mendoza had 17 points and 11 rebounds, her second double-double in the last three games. Alyssa Wolfblack had 12 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in the Knights' second straight loss.
The Knights were up by as many as 11 points in the first quarter and held that lead for most of the first half, but Southwestern came back to tie the game at 37-37 by halftime.
The Jaguars took a 57-49 lead late in the third quarter on a layup by Montserrat Guzman, who had 17 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists, but the Knights answered back with a 10-0 run that was bookended by a pair of Wolfblack 3s.
Her second 3-pointer gave City a 59-57 lead a few seconds into the fourth quarter. Southwestern, however, responded with a 10-0 run of its own to regain the lead for good.
The Knights kept fighting back, but they went ice cold on offense as they shot 16% in the fourth quarter, while Southwestern made 53.3% of its field goals. City had an 11-1 advantage on offensive rebounds in the 4th, but they could not take advantage of all the extra opportunities.
Southwestern turned the ball over 28 times, but City committed 36 turnovers, seven of which came in the fourth quarter.
The Knights won the overall rebound battle, 62-46, which marks the sixth time this season they have grabbed at least that many.
City fell to 11-15 overall and 2-8 in the PCAC. The Knights will play their final road game of the year on at Miramar on Friday at 5 p.m. Their final home game is set for Wednesday, February 19 at 5 p.m. vs. Grossmont.
