Tartars Open SCC Play with 6-4 Win over Rio Hondo

Compton, Calif. - Freshmen Kevin Smith and Billy Sanchez and sophomore Alexandro Rodriguez combined for six of the Tartars' nine hits as the baseball team opened up South Coast Conference play with a 6-4 win over Rio Hondo on Thursday afternoon.

Smith went 2-for-3 with a double, walk, run, and two RBI. Sanchez added a 2-for-4 outing with two runs scored, and Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a walk, run, and RBI.

Freshman Andy Rosales remains undefeated after throwing 6.0 innings, fanning four. Earning his first save of the season, freshman Danny Hernandez pitched two innings of relief, allowing only one hit.

The baseball team (6-9, 1-0) heads to Rio Hondo (6-8, 0-1) to wrap up the two-game matchup on Saturday, Mar. 3 for a 12 p.m. contest.
