With their 22-3 South Coast Conference win over visiting Rio Hondo College on Wednesday, the Cerritos College men's water polo team extended their winning streak to six. The Falcons (12-4, 2-0) will now host the Cerritos Mini Tournament on Friday and play against Orange Coast College (10:20 a.m.) and Chaffey College (3:00 p.m.).

In the win over the Roadrunners (3-12, 0-3), sophomore Kevin Elizarraraz (Buena Park HS) scored the first four goals of the game, as Cerritos pulled out to an early lead and never looked back. After putting six in the net in the first period, they added eight more in the second period to take a 14-3 lead into intermission. They held Rio Hondo off the scoreboard in the second half.

Freshman goalie Nate Pineda (La Mirada HS) came on and played three quarters while turning away a season-high 11 shots, while adding a pair of steals.

Elizarraraz finished with a game-high five goals, with Joey Hurtado (Cerritos HS) recording four goals. No other player scored more than two, as 12 of the 14 field players scored at least once. Freshman Luke Wolfe (Corona HS) dished out a season-high five assists, with the tandem of Mateo Fernandez (St. John Bosco HS) and Eduardo Rodriguez (Buena Park HS) each picking up two helpers.

The Falcons converted an amazing 24 of their 27 shots against Rio Hondo, while a defensive effort that resulted in 20 steals helped with their high shooting percentage. There were 13 players that posted at least one steal, with freshman Mario Vanzillotta posting three.
