W Volleyball: Drops Orange Empire Conference Opener

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West women's volleyball team came into their Orange Empire Conference opener on a 18 set winning streak until Cypress College hit the court and won 26-24, 26-24, 25-19 for the clean sweep victory. 

The opening set was a back and forth battle that saw the Rustlers one point away from making it 19 straight set wins at 24-23. Unfortunately, Cypress would score three straight to earn the opening set win and end Golden West's set winning streak. Outside hitter, Adriana Morales led the Rustlers with nine kills and Rachel Miller talllied seven kills in the defeat. In set two, Golden West battled till the end again and lost it at the end again 26-24. Setter Katie Griffin, led the way with 17 assists and nine digs while libero, Emely Heredia recorded 11 digs. The third set was more of the same, it was tied at 18-18 until the Chargers ran off six straight points to earn the sweep 25-19. 

Golden West is back at home on Friday, September 24th at 6pm when they host Santa Ana College.
