America Maples hurled a two-hit, eight-strikeout shutout, as the West Valley softball team blanked Hartnell 4-0 Tuesday in Saratoga.

The Vikings (14-5, 1-2 Coast-South) rode a career day from Lily Chavez, who finished 3-4 with an RBI and a pair of stolen bases, to pick up their first conference win.

Chavez gave the Vikings the only run they would need in the third when she singled, stole second, moved to third on a Mya Galindo ground out to first and then scored on a Zoe Mendez SAC fly to deep right.

WVC scored two more in the fourth when Megumi Pennebaker came home on Angelina Molina's grounder that was mishandled by the Panther first-baseman. Chavez made it 3-0 with an RBI single that knocked in Hannah Hillman.

A Molina RBI single that scored Airiel Silva in the fifth provided the final West Valley run.

The Vikings travel to Gavilan (8-6, 2-2) Thursday for a key Coast contest with the Rams. First pitch is 3pm.
