Bobcats give fans early treat

The Saddleback football team snapped a four game losing streak with a 49-7 win at home against Southwestern College on Saturday night inside the Saddleback Stadium.  Andrew Wimmer rushed for 100 yards as the Bobcats rolled up 441 yards of offense.

Saddleback shot out of the gate quickly, scoring on six of its first seven drives in giving the Bobcat fans an early Halloween treat.  Saddleback had a 42-7 lead at the intermission, beating Southwestern in every facet of the game.

Saddleback received the ball first and marched right down the field.  The Bobcats engineered a nine-play, 3:16 drive that was capped off with a Drew Nash 19-yard pass to Darius Maxwell for a 7-0 lead.  Just over two minutes later the score was 14-0 after Nash connected with Samuel Hicks for a 29-yard score on a drive that took just 38 seconds.

Later in the first quarter, Saddleback had another nine-play drive that ended up in the end zone as Jamari Ferrell went untouched into the end zone from 19-yards out with 1:20 left on the clock.  Three minutes later it was 28-0 after Anthodius Ashley ran for a three-yard score and the rout was on.

Saddleback's defense was stifling throughout the contest.  The Bobcats allowed just 12 first downs all night long, many of which came in the second half.  Saddleback intercepted Southwestern quarterbacks three times, with Korvin Feagins, James McDonald and Bryan Sanders all jumping in front of Jaguar passes.  The Bobcats recorded five sacks and 10 tackles-for-loss, with Sean Owens finishing with a team-high five tackles and two sacks.

Saddleback's special teams were also a factor, blocking two Southwestern kicks and consistently pinning Southwestern with bad starting field position.

Saddleback's offense was balanced, finishing with 250 yards through the air and 191 on the ground.  The Bobcats played three quarterbacks, who finished a combined 17-for-25 for 250 yards and four touchdown passes.  Wimmer led Saddleback with 100 yards rushing while Samuel Hicks had 76 yards receiving.

Saddleback (3-5, 1-2) will travel to Fullerton next Saturday to play Fullerton College at Yorba Linda High School.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.
