Fighting Owl Volleyball Hosts Orange Coast in Season Opener

Citrus Volleyball opened its 2019 season with a home match vs Orange Coast College on Wednesday. The Owls dropped the match 0-3 with game scores of 13-25, 8-25 and 17-25. 

The two teams started out battling back and forth, but the Pirates quickly established a lead and would hold onto that lead throughout the match. The visitors would go ahead by as many as 17 in the match, holding Citrus to just 16 total kills. 

The Owls saw strong performances from several players. Sophomore outside hitter Summer Edington led the way offensively for Citrus, putting away 7 swings for kills, the most by any player in the game. Freshman defensive specialist Evelyn Enriquez was the top defender for the Owls, posting 12 digs on the night, and Freshman libero Aaliyah Robles scooped up 7. Freshman setter Vanessa Warren served a pair of aces and chipped in 12 assists in the effort. 

Citrus now looks ahead to its next match vs Cuyamaca College at the San Diego Mesa quad on Friday at noon. The Owls then play San Diego Mesa at 2:30.
