Hawks Take Second Game from Dons
The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated district rival, Santa Ana College yesterday with a 5-0 victory.
The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated district rival, Santa Ana College yesterday with a 5-0 victory. The win now puts SCC up 2-0 in the series against the Dons and brings their overall record to 14-7 and 7-1 in OEC play keeping the Hawks in first place. Mystique Rocha was dominant on the mound throwing a complete game shutout. She had a no hitter through six innings before surrendering two hits in the bottom of the 7th inning. She struck out 9 Santa Ana hitters on the way to her 14th win of the season.
The Hawks were able to push one run across in the top of the 5th inning. Alyssa Enriquez drove a base hit into left field that allowed Amiah Rivas to score. Rivas had reached on a Don fielding error and advanced to second on a stolen base before scoring.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Hawks extended their lead with another 4 runs. Rivera and Alyssa Enriquez reached on back to back singles followed by a Catcher's Interference call allowing Liliana Navarro to reach base. With the bases loaded, Cozette Zoch drove a bases clearing double down the left field line. The Hawks final run came after Samantha Villanueva reached safely on a base hit that moved Zoch to third base. Villanueva then stole second base, allowing Zoch to score on the throw.
