LACC @ College of the Sequoias 9/23/22

Cubs come away with a tie

The LACC Men's Soccer Team traveled to Visalia, CA, on a hot Tuesday afternoon to face Nationally Ranked #6 College of the Sequoias on what promised to be an exciting matchup between a North and South contenders that have only lost one game apiece. After a 30-minute delay idue to the field temperature, the game began, and it went off like a firecracker from the start. Sequoias began with the attack and pushed LACC back into their defensive zone after the start of the game, but LACC would manage COS's attack and turn their attack up a notch and would score on a tremendous shot from freshman Nico Magana, who received an assist from sophomore Kender Ruiz. The Cubs managed to take the momentum away from the Giants and it seemed as though the score would be 1-0 in favor of the Cubs at the half. But minutes before the first half ended, COS was awarded a penalty kick in the box, an opportunity they did not let go and scored the tying goal and ended the almost 600 minutes streak the Cubs had without relinquishing a goal. The score would be 1-1 in the half and promised for an even exciting 2nd half.

The second half started just like the first half, but this time it was the LACC Cubs on the fierce attack that would lead to the Cubs with a go-ahead goal. Freshman Eduardo Campos would sail a huge cross to freshman Juan Munoz, that he would header and beat the COS Goalkeeper and give the Cubs the momentum. The Cubs kept creating more scoring opportunities and it seemed like it would put the game out of reach from the COS Giants, but the Giants were able to counter and score on a beautiful shot 30 yards out, that would beat the Cubs GK with just minutes left in the game. Both teams would amp up their attack, but the LACC Cubs would have a couple more last-minute chances that the COS goalkeeper would save and keep the tie alive.

The game ended 2-2, in a playoff game environment that promises for a future match up in the playoffs for both teams after a great start from each of them. The LACC Cubs travel now to Norco on Tuesday September 27, for their last week of non-conference play.
