Tigers Split Doubleheader With Sacramento City

After being held to just one hit in the opener, the Reedley College softball team bounced back with a 5-1 victory over the Sacramento City College Panthers on Tuesday afternoon in Reedley.

With the split of the twinbill, Reedley will take a season record of 5-1 into a Saturday three-way doubleheader with Santa Rosa Junior College at 10 am and a 2 pm matchup with Monterey Peninsula College at 2 pm. Santa Rosa faces Monterey in a 12 noon contest.

Reedley's only hit in Tuesday's first game was a first inning double off the bat of Julia Jimenez. Sacramento's Danielle Reyes retired the last 13 batters she faced in the 3-1 Panther victory.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning of the second game after winning pitcher Lauren Costa worked out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the first. Reedley took advantage of two second inning errors by the Panthers and used singles by Noni Villarreal, Maddie Shubin and Sandra Vallejo in the rally.

Both Aunika Castellanos and Vallejo had three hits each to lead the winner's 10-hit attack.
