GLENDORA — The Lady Cougars totaled their second-highest scoring output of the season as sophomore McKenzie Stoehr put up 29 points and Malia Semana dished out 12 assists to lead College of the Canyons over host citrus College 97-56 on Saturday.
The 29-point performance by Stoehr was her second-highest of the season, and represented the first time she reached the 20-point mark since Dec. 20. Stoehr ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.7 per night. On Saturday, she finished the game 10-of-17 from the field and 7-of-10 from three-point territory. Stoehr added four assists and a pair of steals in the game.
Semana also played a key role in COC's success, adding 12 points to her impressive assist total. She currently ranks fourth in the Western State Conference (WSC) with an average of 4.1 per game.
Diamyn Davis had a standout performance with 17 rebounds to tie her season-high. The freshman has now reached double-digit rebound totals in 13 of 25 games and ranks sixth in the conference at 10.1 per game. Her stat line against Citrus also included 17 points and a pair of blocks.
Cristian Patron ended the night with 20 points and nine rebounds, while reserve Theresa Garcia finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists to give Canyons a boost off the bench.
COC (11-14, 6-6) took a 46-29 lead into halftime, but extended things even further during a decisive third quarter in which the Lady Cougars shot better than 64 percent from the field and nailed five three-pointers, while limiting the owls to just eight points.
Citrus (3-23, 0-12) actually outscored Canyons 19-17 during an unimportant fourth quarter, but it was too late as the Lady Cougars were destined to return to the win column after a two-game skid.
Canyons will next host West L.A. College at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the Cougar Cage in the final home contest of the season. A brief 'Sophomore Night' ceremony will precede the opening tip.
