Citrus Kicks off Season with Win
Citrus College kicked off the 2021 campaign with a victory, downing Chaffey 21-16 Saturday night.
The Owls start the season 1-0, while the Panthers open at 0-1.
Adam Urena and Trent Young combined for 201 yards passing and 163 yards rushing in the victory for Citrus.
Kasmir Dina got the game going with a 44-yard touchdown run to give the Owls the first lead of the game.
Chaffey responded with a field goal and a touchdown of its own to hold a 10-7 lead after the first.
The Owls put together a two minute, 37 second drive just before halftime to put Adam Urena in the endzone. Ivan Castro kicked in the extra point to put Citrus in front 14-10 at the half.
Neither team scored in the third, but Citrus created some separation in the fourth after Matthew Littlejohn intercepted the ball and sprinted 14 yards for a touchdown. Another Castro point after touchdown kick upped the Owls' lead to 21-10.
The Panthers scored in the final five seconds of the game, but the Owl defense kept the home team off the board for the two-point conversion to end the game at 21-16 in favor of the visitors.
