Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team won its third straight match and leveled its record on the season with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-16 sweep over San Diego Mesa at home on Tuesday night.
The Lasers, who have won seven straight sets, improved their record to 5-5 overall. San Diego Mesa went to 1-8.
Irvine Valley, ranked No. 8 in the state, led from start to finish in each set and the Lasers got better with each and every set, including cruising in the third.
A kill by freshman outside hitter Colin Chillingworth and then a combo block by sophomore outside hitter Kalei Ho'opai and freshman opposite Josh Griffith gave the Lasers a 20-11 lead.
Another kill by Chillingworth made it 21-13 and a kill by Griffith put IVC in front, 22-13.
Irvine Valley got to set and match point on a service error by San Diego Mesa and Chillingworth ended the match with an ace.
IVC had 10 different players record kills in the match.
Sophomore opposite Demetre Gossett, who leads the state in total kills, finished with nine to pace IVC. He also had four aces.
Freshman outside hitter Josh Beymer finished with eight kills, and freshman outside hitter Jake Johnson and freshman middle blocker Aaman Soma each added five kills.
Sophomore setter Jimi Wilson contributed 33 assists and four digs, sophomore outside hitter Max Wise had nine digs and sophomore libero Red Ramos chipped in six digs for IVC.
Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday at San Diego Miramar in a nonconference match at 6 p.m. The Jets knocked off the Lasers in five sets at Irvine Valley on Feb. 14.
