Bakersfield Falls to the Mounties

BAKERSFIELD, CA – The Bakersfield College Renegades fell to number three ranked Mt. SAC  28-10 Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

The Gades were first on the board as they capitalized on an end zone interception of a Mountie pass in the first quarter, scoring on a 19-yard field goal by kicker Travis Skinner at the 5:30 mark. Mt. SAC then took a 7-3 lead in the second quarter on an 11-play, 75-yard touchdown drive.

BC had a chance to retake the lead after a 22-play drive covering over nine minutes of clock, however a 25-yard field goal attempt was missed. On the very next possession, the Mounties fumbled on their first play with BC recovering the ball at the Mt. SAC 26-yard line. Quarterback Joseph Campbell then connected with freshman Daylon Leach on a 26-yard touchdown pass completion giving the Gades a 10-7 lead. The lead was short lived as Mt. SAC scored a touchdown with 37 seconds remaining in the quarter and the Mounties took a 14-10 lead into halftime.

Mt. SAC kept the Renegades off the scoreboard the remainder of the game while adding two touchdowns of their own for the final margin of victory.

The Gades (1-3) will travel to San Bernardino on October 1st, have a bye the following weekend, and another road game at College of the Canyons on the 13th before returning to their home turf at Memorial Stadium for this year's homecoming game versus Ventura on Saturday October 22. Kick off set for 6pm.
