Women's soccer team ties with El Camino, OEC action up next

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team finished off the non-conference part of its schedule with a scoreless draw against El Camino on Friday at home.

IVC has next week off from game action and opens Orange Empire Conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m.

With the 0-0 tie on Friday, IVC's record went to 2-4-2 overall. El Camino's record moved to 1-4-1 overall.

It was an even contest throughout with both teams having limited opportunities to score.

El Camino had the best chance after IVC was called for a foul in the box with 17 minutes left in the contest.

But Irvine Valley sophomore goalie Heather Miller dove and made a save on the penalty kick shot taken by Carolyn Medina.

The Lasers had shots taken by soomore midfielder Marissa Banos, freshman defender Amanda Kutcher, freshman midfielder Jamie Bald, sophomore midfielder Diana Lugo and freshman midfielder Betsabet Corrales in the contest.

Lugo had a run into the box late, but her shot was saved by El Camino goalie Joelle Niimi.

Miller finished with eight saves in the match for the Lasers.
