The West Valley softball team got some big blasts and some shut-down pitching to record a pair of non-conference wins Saturday in Saratoga.

Hunter Miramontes was 3-3 with a two-run homer and three RBI and Cayla Williams stroked a solo HR to lead the Vikings (11-3, 0-0 Coast-South) to a 5-0 win over Feather River (5-7-1) in the first game. Bianca Ceja slugged a key RBI double in the fifth and Angelina Molina finished 2-2.

Williams went the distance in the circle, giving up eight hits and striking out six in seven scoreless innings.

Miramontes stayed hot in WVC's 9-1 mercy-rule victory over Merced (2-11) in game two. The sophomore catcher was 2-3 with two RBI, while Williams laced an RBI single. But the big blow was a fifth-inning bases-clearing triple down the first base line from Mariah Perez.

America Maples struck out six Blue Devils and scattered four hits to pick up the win in the circle.

The Vikings host undefeated Monterey Peninsula (13-0, 1-0) Tuesday (3/3) in an important early-season conference contest. First pitch is 3pm.
