Mountie Football downs Saddleback to stay unbeaten

(Walnut, CA) In a low-scoring affair, host Mt. San Antonio College (2-0) remained unbeaten this season with a 13-6 non-conference win over Saddleback College (1-1) on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Up 3-0 at the half, the Mounties extended their lead to 10-0 on an 18-yard pass from Ike Udengwu III (18-34, 180 yards, TD, INT) to Jaden Allen (nine catches, 83 yards, TD) with 9:17 to play in the third. The Bobcats cut the lead to four at the 5:11 mark of the third but were unable to score again the rest of the game. Diego Esqueda added a 32-yard field goal with 8:49 to play to give Mt. SAC a 13-6 lead, which proved to be the game's final score.

Reaven Tribune led the Mounties in rushing with 110 yards on 27 carries, while Udengwu III added 83 yards on nine carries.

Allen led the team in receiving and Tribune also had three catches for 28 yards.

The leading tacklers for Mt. SAC included Nganatatafu Leakehe (six tackles, three solo), Mason White (five tackles, three solo), and Dupre Mendoza (four tackles, sack). White, Anthony Hebert, and Toalei Lefau each had an interception in the winning effort.

While the score was close, the Mounties dominated the stat sheet, compiling 376 yards of total offense to Saddleback's 155.

Mt. SAC hits the road for a non-conference game at San Bernardino Valley College (0-2) on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. The Mounties defeated the Wolverines last season, 52-21.
