Vaqueros down Ventura 8-5, move into 2nd place

Rocio Fesembeck had four goals and three steals on Tuesday, leading SBCC to an 8-5 women's water polo victory at Ventura.

The Vaqueros (10-10, 3-1) stretched their season-high win streak to four games and took over sole possession of second place in the WSC, one game behind Cuesta (4-0). SBCC led 6-4 at halftime and prevailed 2-1 in a defensive second half.

Paula Tkach added two goals and Kaitlyn Wentz Fitzgerald had a goal and three steals. Autumn Lovett had a goal, two assists, two steals and two drawn ejections. Goalie Alex Brown collected 11 saves and two steals.

"We had 16 steals, which is a season high," said coach Chuckie Roth. "Paula Tkach had two goals and stepped up in power-play situations. Alyssa Diener played a season-high 12 minutes in the field and made two steals."

SBCC was 4-6 in 6-on-5 power plays while Ventura was 0-5.

Santa Barbara is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts L.A. Pierce for another WSC contest at San Marcos High, starting at 5:40 p.m.

The Pierce game will be live-streamed on the Vaquero Broadcasting Network with Ryan Graff on the call.
