Crazed 2nd half scoring frenzy dooms Falcons

Saturday evening's match against Big 8 rival and co-champion Cosumnes River lived up to the pre-game hype as the teams fought through a wild second half before the visiting Hawks earned a crazy 5-3 victory.  With a raucous local crowd on hand at Falcon Stadium, the #14 seeded Hawks scored the only goal of the first half following some miscommunication between the Falcons' defenders and keeper.  The easy goal clearly lifted the Hawks' energy levels while deflating the #3 seeded Falcons, who seemed to be controlling the match until that point.  The Hawks added to their lead 15 minutes into the second half and appeared to be well on their way to victory.  But the final 12 minutes of play were as wild as anyone would imagine, with six goals scored – 3 by each team – before the final whistle sounded.  When the dust – or fog – had settled, the Hawks were the team advancing to the next round with the 5-3 win over the Falcons.  Falcon sophomore Kameron Kascht finished his FLC career with a flurry of goals, netting all three for the Falcons in those final 12 minutes and giving him a team-leading 15 for the season.

The Falcons, while disappointed with the outcome, finish 2021 with an outstanding overall record of 13-3-5.  Of those three losses, two were administered by Cosumnes River.
