MSJC Women Outlast Victor Valley for Third Time, Win 60-42

MSJC's Haylei Janssens recorded her 19th double double of the year on Wednesday to help the women's basketball team to a 60-42 win at Victor Valley.

The MSJC women's basketball team stayed unbeaten in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play on Wednesday as they went on the road and defeated Victor Valley 60-42.

The two teams were meeting for the third time since January 8th and the familiarity was clear on the court early in the game.  The Rams were able to take a one point lead at 18-17 after a back and forth first quarter.  The MSJC defense stepped up in the second period to help out the struggling offense as they outscored VVC 14-3 in the second to lead by 10, 31-21 at the half.  The Eagles and Rams played an even third quarter, before MSJC once again out scored their opponent 18-10 in the final 10 minutes.

Three Eagles finished the night with double doubles led by Kiana Castello who scored a game high 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  Haylei Janssens recorded her 19th double double of the year with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Deja Blue had 14 points, 12 rebounds and a game high 5 assists.

The Eagles controlled the glass on the evening as they out rebounded the Rams 59-39.

The win improves the Eagles to 22-2 on the season, they are 9-0 in the IEAC.  Victor Valley fell to 13-11 overall and 5-3 in league contests.

MSJC will be back in action on Saturday when they host Chaffey in a 1 pm game.  The Eagle men's team will also play on Saturday following the women at 3.
