Castro Pours in 31, Chargers Defeat AVC 87-69

CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress College men's basketball team (1-0) competed in their first game of the season against Antelope Valley (3-6) on Friday night. The Chargers defeated the Marauders 87-69 on Don Johnson Court.

The Chargers dominated the first half and came out the gates with a three pointer from sophomore Sebastian Castro. He led the Chargers with 18 points followed by sophomore Guard Tommie Flanegen with 12 points in the first half. Cade Flowers was hungry on the glass pulling down 6 defensive rebounds, leading the agressive Charger defense. Antelope Valley went on a scoring run until Tommie Flanegen increased the Chargers' lead when he knocked down two key three pointers in the final minutes of the first half.

As the second half started, the Chargers led the Marauders 42-24. Depite the Marauders' impressive dunks in the second half, the Chargers were able to maintain a comfortable lead throughout. 

The Chargers offense prevailed tonight, making 54% of their shots from the field and 45% from the 3-point line. The Chargers also made 83% of their free throws with Romulo Howard earning 4 of the team's 12 free throws. Cypress had four scorers reach double figures, as Sebastian Castro finished the game with 31 points followed by, Tommie Flanegen who drained 16 points. Both Cade Flowers and Ramiah Adedigba finished with 11 points each with Flowers leading the Chargers defensive efforts with 9 rebounds.

UP NEXT: The Chargers will host Cerro Coso next week at Don Johnson Court. The Chargers are looking to leverage their strong offensive plays to pull another win against the Coyotes on Tuesday, April 13th at 4:00pm.
