LANCASTER - 4-0 and counting.
Jonathan Cornish's heroics in the bottom of the 10th inning broke a 3-3 tie and lifted the Marauder baseball team to a 4-3 victory over visiting Mt. San Jacinto and with it improved to 4-0 on the season, Wednesday afternoon at Marauder Stadium.
With one out in the bottom of the 10th inning, Cornish blasted a solo home run over the left field fence off Eagles' reliever Trae Erikson to end the game. Cornish finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBI.
"It's very important for us to keep on fighting and grinding it out. Everyone has a part to do and everyone has been doing their job," Cornish said. "It was very exciting (to hit the walk-off home run). I finally got a hold of one and I'm grateful it led to our win. Our pitching has been shutting teams down."
The 4-0 start equals the second best start in school history. In 2007, the Marauders began their season by winning their first 10 games.
AVC pitching was solid over the course of 10 innings. A total of four pitchers allowed only three runs on seven hits, while striking out 12. Relievers Andrew Elliott, Travis Bowe and Austin Grabbitt only allowed one run and two hits while fanning seven over six innings in relief of starter Blake Leidholdt.
The Marauders look to improve on its perfect season when it hosts Imperial Valley on Saturday at 12pm and 2pm at Marauder Stadium.
