Softball Battles Weather in Sweep of Taft

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College softball program fought through unusual wet and cold conditions at home in Tuesday afternoon's sweep of Taft College. With the victory, the Bulldogs now move to 5-3 on the season while Taft falls to 3-10.

GAME 1: ALLAN HANCOCK - 13, TAFT - 5 | BOX SCORE

Both teams made it onto the scoreboard in the second frame as the Cougars scored a pair of unearned runs off of a double before Abigail Salazar sent a shot over the fence with one runner on base to tie the game. A homer by Briana Munoz sparked a three-run inning in the third, followed by an RBI double from Antoinette Terrones brought home two. Battles continued to rattle for Hancock in the fourth as six runners crossed the plate. Madison Gamble sparked the scoring frenzy with an RBI single, followed by a pair of doubles from Terrones and Ehsya Glidewell that each scored two. Hancock closed the inning by sending a runner home after capitalizing on a Taft error at the plate. The Cougars mustered three tallies in the fifth frame, but a pair of RBIs from Xchelle Glidwell and Alyssa Jones forced the mercy rule and ended play early.

X. Glidewell picked up the win in the circle after a complete-game performance. She allowed just one earned run and scattered eight hits through five full innings of action.

GAME 2: ALLAN HANCOCK - 7, TAFT - 3 | BOX SCORE

The Cougars jumped out early in the nightcap after registering one run in the second. The home squad responded by posting two runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead after a triple by Lisette Coria and a single from Salazar each plated one. Terrones kept the rally going in the next inning with a triple that scored two before being brought home by Coria during the next at-bat. E. Glidewell wrapped up the scoring for the Bulldogs with a double that plated two in the fifth before Taft closed out the scoring in the contest with a pair of runs in the sixth.
