Falcons Rebound with Win over Porterville; Fall to Modesto in Four

Modesto, Calif. - The Solano women's volleyball team rebounded with a sweep of Porterville (25-12, 25-15, 25-16), but fell to host, Modesto (15-25, 25-15, 28-30, 19-25), on Friday evening at the Modesto Classic.

Against the Pirates, freshmen Dani Rydjord and Sammy Brown combined for 15 of the team's 28 total kills with Rydjord leading the way with eight. Defensively, Brown paced the backcourt with 13 digs with sophomore Kailyn Kaiser close behind with 12. Freshman middle blocker Gina Garlick counted four blocks with sophomore Mylei Moli adding three. 

"This was a great team effort," Solano women's volleyball head coach Darla Williams said. "We have started to play together and gel with one another. Despite the loss, I feel that the match against Modesto was our best well-rounded match with energy, defense, and our offense."

Brown earned a double-double in the effort against Modesto, counting 11 kills and 11 digs. Rydjord added 8 kills, while Moli earned seven. Kaiser led the defense with 18 digs, while Garlick tallied another four blocks.

Solano (2-4) heads back to Fairfield to host Diablo Valley and Butte in the Solano Classic for the Falcons' home opener. The team will face the Vikings at 3 p.m. and the Roadrunners at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but masks are required.
