SHASTA FALLS TO NO. 20 BUTTE 58-42

BUTTE VALLEY – Shasta College's men's basketball team suffered its first Golden Valley Conference road loss of the season with a 58-42 loss to Butte College on Saturday.

The Knights were outscored 29-15 in the first half and shot only 20 percent (15-of-75) from the field, including 5-of-25 from 3-point range.

Sophomore Zach Thompson was the lone Knight in double figures with 12 points while freshman Simmer Singh scored nine points to go with seven rebounds. Sophomore Tanner Bidwell pulled down eight rebounds and freshman Derek Gorden had seven boards.

Shasta's bench outscored Butte's 14-7, getting five points each from freshman Adam Shoff and sophomore Brendan Hoag.

The 42 points were a season-low for Shasta, which drops to 1-2 in GVC play and 10-11 overall.

Shasta hosts No. 13 College of the Redwoods Saturday at 1 p.m.
