Baseball Rolls Past Rio Hondo 6-3

The No. 4 Long Beach City College baseball team defeated the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners 6-3 on Thursday evening.  With the sixth-consecutive win, the Vikings hold on to a perfect 5-0 conference record.

Sophomore pitcher Sebastian Irwin (1-1) earned the win on the mound with holding the Roadrunners to only five hits, while striking down four. Freshman pitcher Matthew Pinal took the save in the final inning to close out the game.

The Vikings were first on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a run from sophomore short shop David Rivera. Then with sophomore designated hitter Ryan Guerero and sophomore catcher Diego Altamirano in scoring positions, freshman third baseman Alex Seguine smashed a triple to center field for two RBI to help lead the Vikings 3-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Pinal hit an RBI single to center field to score sophomore center fielder Carter White. Then Guerero batted in Altamirano to extend the Vikings' lead 5-0.

The Roadrunners scored three runs in the top of seventh, and the Vikings slid one more run from sophomore right fielder Jake Creamer to close out the game with the 6-3 conference win.

The Vikings will return to the field in the final game of the series on Saturday, Feb. 29 at Rio Hondo College at 12 p.m.
