Reedley Softball Hosts #1 San Mateo

The Lady Tiger softball team hopes to reverse the situation in a Feb. 25 home doubleheader with Gavilan College before opening Central Valley Conference action Feb. 27 at home with Fresno City.

Coach Kathy Kuball's Tigers dropped to 4-10 on the season Friday by falling to College of the Canyons 6-2 before a 15-1 loss to the state's top-ranked team, the College of San Mateo Bulldogs.

Gavilan has a 2-2 record in non-league play while Fresno City takes a 6-5 record into the week.

After Canyons took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Reedley's Ellie Montalvo hit a two-run homer of her own in the bottom half of the inning. But that was it for the Tiger offense, who were held to two hits the rest of the way.

College of San Mateo jumped on Reedley pitcher Amanda Beltran (who pitched all q

12 innings in the two games) for five runs in the bottom of the first. The Bulldogs' Riley Donovan, who hit a two-run walk-off homer to edge College of the Canyons 6-5, had another two-run homer in the first.

Montalvo drove in Reedley's only run with a sacrifice fly, scoring Bobbie Falcon who had singled and advanced to third on an error.
