Santa Ana Volleyball Goes 2-0 in Annual Quad

SANTA ANA, Calif. -  On Friday afternoon, the Santa Ana College Women's Volleyball team went undefeated in it's annual quad tournament as the Dons took out San Diego City in five sets by score of 3-2 (19-25, 25-16, 25-20, 24-26, 15-13) and then swept the Chaffey Panthers 3-0 (25-18, 28-26, 25-11).

Match 1

In the first match of the day, the Dons got a rematch against the San Diego City Knights (2-3), who defeated them 3-0 on September 3rd. 

This one was on pace to go the same way as their first meeting with the Dons dropping the first set 25-19. But the momentum quickly shifted as Santa Ana began to execute, taking the next two sets 25-16, 25-20. 

San Diego City was nearly defeated but squeezed out a 26-24 win in the fourth set to send the match to a tie breaking fifth. 

The Dons responded well in the fifth to muscle out a 15-13 victory and even the season series against the Knights. 

Jaiden Silver and Kassandra Zavala provided the offense for the Dons with 12 kills a piece. The outside hitters also combined for three aces and 10 digs.

The SAC setters both had very well rounded matches as Kaiden Raif ended with a team high 22 assists, 10 digs and three aces while Courtney Gomez added 16 assists, nine digs, six kills and five aces. 

Taylor Vagana and Angela Hill provided a boost for the Dons defensively coming away with 13 and 10 digs respectively. 

Match 2

Following a tough five set match, the Dons welcomed the Chaffey Panthers (0-7) who just came out of a match themselves on court two. 

Santa Ana wasted no time as they stayed hot and took the match with a 3-0 sweep to improve to 4-2 with four consecutive wins. 

The Dons were again led by Silver and Zavala in the kills column as both recorded 11. Hill was leader in digs for this one, totalling 14 in the match while Raif and Gomez gave out a combined 35 assists. 

Next Up

Santa Ana will be back in action on Wednesday, September 15th as they host Palomar at 6:00 p.m. The Dons will follow that with their first Orange Empire Conference match of the season on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at Riverside City.
