PANTHERS CLOSE OUT 2019 WITH HOME GAME V SAN BERNARDINO
The Panthers were scheduled to open the 19-20 IEAC season tonight v Palo Verde but the Pirates failed to field a team necessitating a schedule change. I lieu of the PC game, Chaffey was aligned with longtime rival San Bernardino Valley for a non-conference game, essentially an IEAC preview match.
The first period saw the two teams evenly matched with the Wolverines leading by four at the horn. Chaffey failed to score in the 2nd period and the teams went into the break with SBVC up 30-14. The second half was closely matched with San Bernardino outscoring the Panthers by two. Ultimately, the first half deficit was unconquerable and the Wolverines took the game 62-44. "we didn't bring our A-game tonight," said Head Coach Tasha Burnett. "We'll need to refocus when we come back from the break and resume the conference season." The Panthers take a break from competition and return to the Sports Center for a rematch against the Wolverines on the 2nd.
The Chaffey squad was led by freshman Harjinder Takher with 18 points, 5:5 from the line, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. Elyanna Rios added 14 to the board. "We came off a tournament last weekend and then played hard tonight," said Takher. "We'll be back to practice on the 27th and prepared to take on Valley on the 2nd."
