The SDCC men's soccer team earned its first victory of the season on Tuesday by coming back from a 1-0 deficit with three goals in the second half to defeat San Diego Mesa, 3-1.
Coming into Tuesday's contest, the Knights had lost all eight of their games and it looked as though they were headed for another loss when Mesa got on the board first with a goal from Zane Wade in the 20th minute. San Diego City goalkeeper Sebastian Guillen got a hand on a free kick from Manuel Lopez, but couldn't control it and Wade put in the loose ball.
The Knights took nine shots to Mesa's four in the first half, but couldn't find the back of the net.
It didn't take long, however, for City to get the equalizer in the second half. Victor Lopez put through a perfectly timed pass down the middle for Neftali Bojorquez, who then beat Mesa's keeper to tie the game at 1-1.
In the 60th minute, Erwin Hampton received the ball on the right side of the field and proceeded to dribble around five Mesa defenders towards the middle of the box where he finally took a shot and scored to give the Knights the lead.
The Knights, outshot Mesa 16-2 in the second half, scored an insurance goal in the 85th minute off a set piece. Ivan Gonzalez' ball of a corner kick landed in front of the net where Jordy Robolledo was there to knock it in to give City a 3-1 advantage.
The Knights outshot Mesa 25-6 overall and could've had several more goals if it wasn't for Mesa's keeper, Ty Aumann, who stopped eight shots in the half and 11 overall.
City improved to 1-8 overall and 1-1 in the PCAC.
San Diego City will be on the road for the next two games beginning on Friday at MiraCosta at 3 p.m. They will then play at Palomar at 1 p.m. on October 15.
