(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team, behind a goal from freshman forward Alyssa Gomez, defeated visiting Grossmont College 1-0 on September 4 in a nonconference game.

"Our young Mounties have been dominating games but have been having some difficulty trying to find the back of the net," said first-year Mt. SAC Women's coach Kristen Purper. "Thanks to Alyssa, "Chich" Gomez, we finally accomplished our goal."

The goal, which came in the second half in the 60th minute, was assisted by freshman midfielder Liani Sanchez.

Picking up her first win in the nets this season was sophomore keeper Jacqueline Botello. The Mounties took 21 shots in the game.

"The win has significantly increased the confidence of the team and we are looking forward to the San Bernardino Game," Purper added. "I am hoping that our strong defense and change in formation will help our offense successfully find the back of the net again against such a dominating team."

The Mounties host San Bernardino Valley College today, September 7. Game time is 4:00 pm
