Eagles Make it Six Straight With Road Win

The MSJC football team kept their winning streak alive on Saturday afternoon as they went on the road and came away with a 34-7 win over Victor Valley.

The Rams and the Eagles played a scoreless first period, before the MSJC offense found the end zone twice in the second quarter to take a 14-0 lead into halftime.  Jaylen Magee scored on a pair of running plays in the first half as he capped off a methodical 16 play 81 yard drive to score from 6 yards out early in the second period and then punched in a one yard TD after a 7 play 80 yard drive 7 minutes later.

Matthew Caldera would extend the Eagles lead to 21-0 on the opening drive of the second half when he scored on a 4 yard run after another impressive 10 play 75 yard drive.  Victor Valley would find their way into the end zone for the only time on the day on the ensuing drive to cut the lead to 21-7 headed to the final period.  The Eagles tacked on a pair of touchdowns in the 4th as Magee scored his third TD of the day on a 3 yard run and Robert Coleman hooked up with Caldera on a 17 yard scoring play through the air.

The Eagle defense has been on a roll lately and continued that Saturday as they held the Rams to just 248 yards of total offense.  In all MSJC made 6 sacks on the day and 9 total tackles for loss.  Steven Bradshaw made a team high 8 tackles in the game and recovered a fumble for the Eagles, while Carsten Mamaril was credited with a pair of sacks.  Joseph Rapolla, Khamarli Jarrett, Leasau Toalepai, and Darius Knight were all credited with a sack a piece for MSJC.  The Eagle defense has allowed just 17 total points in their last three games.

Coleman wrapped his day throwing for 267 yards on 21 of 28 passing, he also ran for 88 yards on 16 attempts.  Magee had 17 carries for 82 yards to go along with his 3 touchdowns.  Taliq Brown made 10 receptions for a game high 130 yards while Jevin Dorsey also went over the century mark with 9 catches for 107 yards.

The win was the Eagles sixth in a row as they improved to 6-1 overall on the season they are now 2-0 in American Mountain League play.  

The victory also sets up a big showdown this Saturday October 29th when the Eagles host College of the Desert at 1 pm at Carl Quandt Stadium.  The Roadrunners, like the Eagles come into the game at 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the AML.  The game is also MSJC's 2022 Homecoming game as well as being the 55th Annual Palms to Pines Trophy game.  MSJC has won four straight games in the rivalry and haven't lost to the Roadrunners since October 14th of 2017.
