W. Basketball Picks Up a Pair of Wins at Gaucho Classic

The MSJC women's basketball team won games on Thursday and Friday over Southwestern and Mira Costa at the Gaucho Classic in Mission Viejo.

On Thursday MSJC led from start to finish in an 80-56 victory over Southwestern College.  Haylei Janssens had a huge game with 29 points and 21 rebounds to lead the way for the Eagles.  De'Adra Ross recorded a double double with 10 points and 14 boards in the win for MSJC.  Diamonere Butler also reached double figures in scoring as she had 10 points and also grabbed 8 rebounds.  Mariah Sanchez chipped in with 9 points off the bench.

On Friday the Eagles started horribly as they fell behind 25-5 and 25-8 after the first quarter, before rallying back for a 71-58 victory over Mira Costa.  Sanchez scored a game high 22 points, and Janssens again was huge with 21 points and a game best 15 boards.  After a bad start MSJC went 26 of 51 from the field after the first period.  Butler chipped in again with 8 rebounds and Keiara Barton had 6 points and 5 assists.

The Eagles are now 3-2 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday and Wednesday as they take trips to Fullerton and Grossmont.  Tuesday's game at Fullerton will tip-off at 6 and Wednesday's game is slated for 5 pm.
