The No. 11 Long Beach City College Vikings defeated the Grossmont College Griffins 38-21 on Saturday evening in Veterans Stadium in their first game of the 2018 season. The Vikings came out the gates at full speed and kept their momentum on offense until the final whistle. Freshman quarterback Drake Peabody delivered as he tossed 285 yards in the air for the Vikings.

The Vikings were first on the board with a pass from Peabody to sophomore wide receiver Patrick Lee, followed by an extra point from sophomore kicker Agustin Delgadillo.

Delgadillo went five-for-five on extra points for the game and was next up on the scoreboard to extend the Vikings lead with a 28-yard field goal at the eight-minute mark in the first quarter.

Grossmont answered back with an 11-yard run, but it wasn't enough to stop the Vikings' offense.

In the second quarter, Peabody drained a 48-yard pass to Lee for the Vikings' second touchdown. Peabody wasn't ready to hold back just yet as he took matter into his own hands to score the next touchdown and smashed through the end zone to increase Long Beach's lead to 24-7 to go into halftime.

After halftime, freshman right back Pierre Robinson caught a 21-yard pass from Peabody to continue the Vikings domination. Freshman wide receiver Jonathan Bonds was next on the board with a 9-yard pass from up top to score the final points for the Vikings.

Grossmont finally retaliated in the fourth quarter with two more touchdowns, but it didn't faze the Vikings as they walked away with a 38-21 win over the Griffins.

The Vikings will play again next Saturday, Sept. 8 at Mt. San Antonio College at 1 p.m.
