Two games in a row, two wins in a row and it only took extra innings both times. This time however the Hawks (7-6, 0-0 Big 8) did it in walk off fashion defeating Yuba College 3-2 Thursday afternoon at Conway Field. It was the first home contest for the Hawks in over two weeks and boy did these young men look good at home. Freshman Alan Garcia (Sheldon HS) got his first collegiate start on the bump and went 5 strong innings for the Hawks (5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K's). Pounding the strike zone early and often Garcia kept the 49ers of Yuba College off balance thru his first 4 innings of work. The offense got it started early for the Hawks when red hot Freshman Bryson McArn (Pleasant Grove HS) hit a 2-2 fastball over the right field fence. On the day McArn led the Hawks by going 2x4 w/HR. The blast put the Hawks on the right track going up 1-0 and holding onto that lead until the top of the 5th inning when Garcia got into a bit of trouble. 3 straight singles to lead the top half for Yuba, Garcia proceeded to get the next two batters out and then left a belt high fastball up to the 3 hitter of the 49ers and that hit moved Yuba ahead 2-1.

It would not be until the bottom half of the 8th inning for the Hawks to answer back. Freshman Joseph Fong (Mclatchy HS) doubled to start the inning. A sacrifice bunt from Troy Melendez (Bear Creek HS) advanced Fong to third base. With 2 outs in the inning, Sophmore Captain Brett Graber (Capital Christian HS) evened the score up with a huge RBI single to Center putting the game at 2-2 tie. Heading into the top half of the 10th Freshman Ryan Tipton (Cordova HS) came on in releif and got the Hawks out of 1st and 2nd base jam with 0 runs allowed also earning his first collegiate win. Heading into the bottom half of the 10th the Hawks had the top half of the order due up and they all did their jobs. Freshamn Lakeal Morris (Folsom HS) and Graber both walked. Freshman Jack Painter (Davis Sr. HS) hit a flare single and that brought the Hawks clean up hitter Sophmore Henry Degnan (El Cerrito HS) to the plate. Degnan got a 1-0 pitch and laced the ball to left/centerfield for the game winning RBI Sacrifice Fly to bring home Morris from 3rd base.

The Hawks return to game action Tuesday February 25th at home to open Big 8 conference play against rival American River College for a 3 game series, Game Time is slated for 2:00 pm.
