CCSF cruises to 7-2 win at Monterey Peninsula in 2022 season opener

MONTEREY --- City College of San Francisco women's tennis head coach Mary Graber has her team off to another great start after the Rams came away with a 7-2 Coast Conference win at Monterey Peninsula College in their 2022 season opener on Friday.

CCSF made its official return to the court for the first time since the pandemic cut short an impressive 2020 season that saw the Rams open with a 10-0 match record.

On Friday, the Rams earned the decisive victory. Graber emphasized the win at No. 3 singles by freshman Anh Duong as a big point in the match.

After clinching the first set 6-2, Duong fell behind 1-5 in the second. But after battling the heat and leg cramps, she rallied to win the next six points and take the set by a final score of 7-5.

"Anh competed her heart out, overcoming calf cramps to win the match," Graber said. "Weather conditions were quite warm, even in Monterey, and Anh fought back to win. Points were incredibly long, averaging 20 exchanges per point. The entire team was in awe of her effort."

CCSF returns to action on Friday (Feb. 18) when the Rams host West Valley College in a 2 p.m. Coast Conference match.
