Christian Patron poured in 37 points as College of the Canyons pulled out a 95-86 overtime victory at Santa Monica College on Wednesday.
Canyons (10-12, 5-4) returned to the win column after a brief slide and will look to continue that trend with five regular season games remaining on the schedule.
Patron's performance came by way of a 15-of-21 shooting night and topped her previous season-high of 34 points recorded back on Dec. 28 during a one-point loss to host East L.A. College. The sophomore also added six rebounds, four assists and two blocks on the night.
COC freshman Diamyn Davis finished with 26 points and eight rebounds, shooting 11-of-20m from the floor. Sophomore McKenzie Stoehr finished with 11 points and four assists.
Freshman Malia Semana made her mark with seven assists, five rebounds and five points.
The Lady Cougars took a slim 32-29 led into halftime.
The Corsairs (10-13, 4-5) erupted for a 31-point outburst in the third quarter to jump ahead at 60-56.
Canyons rallied in the fourth quarter, and had a chance to win in regulation, but Patron's last-second shot was off the mark and the game eventually went to overtime. COC controlled the extra period, however, posting 16 points to create some separation and secure the conference victory.
The victory gives the Lady Cougars a season sweep of the Corsairs. The two teams played to a 66-65 final score in their first meeting on Jan. 11, with that game also coming down to a last second scoring play.
COC is back in action Saturday, Feb. 9, vs. L.A. Valley College in the Cougar Cage. Tip is scheduled for 5 p.m.
