Pirates blank El Camino, 5-0

NORWALK -- The Orange Coast College beach volleyball team continued its strong start to the 2022 season with a 5-0 nonconference win over host El Camino College.

The Pirates (3-0) picked up straight-set wins in four of their five matches, with victories coming from Alanna Shields/Sophia Solo (21-18, 21-15), Sarah Enright/Rachel Blair (21-12, 21-14), Lexy Mendoza/Paige Cutwright (21-7, 21-10) and Jadyn Pope/Rachel Street (21-13, 21-16).

OCC's No. 2 pair of Summer Hanks and Brisa Zapata-Reaves had a battle on their hands against the Warriors, winning the first set 21-17 before falling in the second, 22-20. But the OCC duo regrouped and outlasted the Warriors' duo, 15-13 in the third-and-final set. 

In the extra match of the afternoon, the Pirate pair of Izzy Duchaine and Emily Payne also picked up a straight-set win, 21-13, 21-16).

Coast will stay on the road and take on host Mt. San Antonio on Friday at 11 a.m. OCC's next home matchup will be on Friday, March 11 on the Newland Courts in Huntington Beach, against Irvine Valley, beginning at 10 a.m.
