Long Beach Demolishes LA Southwest in Season Opener

The Long Beach City College football team had a triumphant return to the field for their season opener against LA Southwest, where they commanded an astounding 72-6 win over the Cougars.

Quarterback Qeanu Campbell-Caldwell led the Vikings to victory with 255 total yards and four touchdowns.

The Vikings opened the game by scoring 31 points against the Cougars, and shut their offense down completely by not even letting them pass the 50-yard line into Vikings territory.

Wide receiver Trenel Ridgely continued his reign over the Cougars with a 74-yard punt return touchdown, and a 28-yard touchdown pass from Campbell-Caldwell to help boost the Vikings score up to 48 points.

Kicker Mario De la Torre closed the second quarter with a 50-yard field goal to seal the halftime at 51-6.

In the third quarter, the Vikings slowed down their offense to only two touchdowns. Then ended the game with a 62-yard punt return touchdown from wide receiver Kyle Miller to finaliza the 72-6 win.

The Vikings football team will be back on the gridiron next Saturday, Sept. 10 against Riverside City College (at Ramona High School) at 12 p.m.
