CCCAA affirms plans to return to full athletics competition in 2021-22

“Providing Opportunities… Fulfilling Dreams” has long defined the CCCAA’s mission and has been realized by its actions. Despite the commitment and dedication of thousands of student-athletes, coaches and staff throughout the state, the past 13 months have made living up to that motto a challenge.

The CCCAA, in order to be steadfast in purpose, is preparing for a full-scale return for the 2021-22 school year, providing 25 state championships across 24 intercollegiate sports for 110 colleges throughout the state.

California continues to safely return to pre-pandemic life. The Golden State leads the country with nearly 30 million vaccination doses given, 11 million more than any other state. More than 11 million Californians representing almost 30 percent of the population have been fully vaccinated and thousands more are joining them every day. Every person 16 years of age and older is now eligible to receive the vaccine. Additionally, the Governor has announced that California may be fully reopened as soon as June 15.

California is doing everything it can to get the state back up to full speed and the CCCAA is working to do the same in support of our colleges and student-athletes.

We recognize that we will be managing with the pandemic for the foreseeable future and we will continue to prioritize the health and safety of everyone involved with our sports. Safety will always come first. However, we will mitigate the challenges to the best of our abilities, just as we have done while navigating these unprecedented times.

Our districts and colleges will continue to have the opportunity to do what’s in their best interests and we will support those decisions. The CCCAA is fully committed to a safe return to its full complement of sports and championships.
