LA Mission College wins first ever WSC Supremacy Award
2016-2017 WSC Supremacy Award Final Standings
GLENDORA, Calif. - Los Angeles Mission College snapped a three-year Western State Conference Supremacy Award winning streak by neighbor College of the Canyons this year. On the backs of strong performance from all four sports it offers, the Eagles posted an average of 7.70 to claim its first ever WSC Supremacy title.
After knocking on the door three times in the last four years with a pair of second place finishes in 2013 and 2014 and a third place finish in 2015, the Eagles finally broke through during the 2016-2017 academic year. LA Mission won the Western State Conference South Division title in baseball, finished in a tie for second place in the WSC North for men's soccer, finished third in the WSC South in women's volleyball, and grabbed valuable points thanks to a fourth place finish in the WSC South in softball.
Mission just outpaced second place Ventura College, who finished the year with a conference high of 129 points. The Pirates averaged 6.79 points on the year, and were home to eight WSC championships this past academic year. It's Ventura's second straight runner-up finish. Santa Barbara City College would finish in third with 118 total points and an average of 6.21. It's the 10th straight year that the Vaqueros have had a Top 5 finish in the Supremacy standings. Moorpark College meanwhile finished in fourth for its highest finish since they were 3rd in 2007. Rounding out the Top 5 was Citrus College, who posted it's best ever finish since joining the WSC back during the 1999-2000 academic year.
