McKechnie steps down as Central Valley Conference Commissioner
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Logan McKechnie, who has overseen the Central Valley Conference as its Commissioner, has stepped aside from his role after serving the league and California community college athletics with distinction for the past 23 years.
Besides working closely in all facets with the 11 colleges that comprise the Central Valley Conference, McKechnie has been chairman of the California Community College Athletic Association Disabilities Appeals Board since 1994 and has been a member of the organization’s Constitution Committee since 1999. Additionally, he was a member of the CCCAA Board of Directors from 2003-09.
“Mr. McKechnie has taken on so many roles in his 23-year tenure as Commissioner and his involvement with the CCCAA,” said Carlyle Carter, CEO and President of the CCCAA. “As a stalwart on the Constitution Committee, he has left an indelible footprint on CCCAA policies, both historically and for the future, through official interpretations of the Constitution and with review of proposed legislation. In addition, his service on the Disabilities Appeals Board has directly benefited numerous student-athletes over the years.
“His contributions cannot be overlooked,” added Carter. “Mr. McKechnie’s legacy in service to the Association cannot be overstated. He truly will be missed.”
McKechnie wished the best for the conference moving forward.
“I have enjoyed and looked forward to every day that I was able to work with the individuals who make up the CCCAA and the CVC,” he said. “I hope the best for the Conference and the State. Those students who participate in sports in California on the community college level have the most vigorous supporters that they could hope for--and that is what makes the system outstanding.”
Dr. Pamela Luster, CCCAA Board of Directors Chair, thanked McKechnie for his contributions to community college athletics.
“Logan’s guidance and dedication to this organization has made a permanent impact on our work. We will miss his wry humor and incisive advice as we move forward.”
Members of the Central Valley Conference include Cerro Coso College, Clovis Community College, Columbia College, Fresno City College, Merced College, Porterville College, Reedley College, College of the Sequoias, Taft College, West Hills College-Coalinga, and West Hills College-Leemore.
A new Commissioner for the Central Valley Conference is expected to be named in the near future.
