Carter named to 2017-18 MOAA Board of Directors
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Carlyle Carter, the Executive Director and CEO of the California Community College Athletic Association since 2005, has been named to the Board of Directors for the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association for the 2017-18 year, it's been announced.
Carter joins newcomers Preston Beverly, assistant athletic director and assistant men's basketball coach at Richard Bland College; Dena Freeman-Patton, the deputy AD at Cal State Bakersfield; T.J. Wise, assistant athletics director for sports administration at Ohio State; and Timothy Wise, the senior associate athletics director for facilities and event operations at the University of Miami.
The new members to the MOAA Board of Directors will assume their roles following the organization's 2017 Symposium on June 10-12 in Orlando, Fla.
The MOAA is administered by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. Its stated goal on its website is to promote equitable employment opportunities for minorities in the athletics industry through the exchange of ideas, the creation of networking opportunities and the avocation of an increase in employment for minorities in athletics administration positions at all levels of the sports industry.
Carter has a long and distinguished career in athletics administration. He was the Director of Athletics and Recreational Sports for Penn State's Branch Campus System before joining the Div. III Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 1994 as its first chief administrator. With the CCCAA, Carter oversees the governing body for intercollegiate athletics at 106 community colleges withmore than 26,000 student-athletes. The CCCAA sponsors 24 championships each year.
